Description of Services

Asphalt Cores – Is the process of having an asphalt technician drill a specified diameter core of an existing asphalt layer for further testing of either the asphalt or the material below the asphalt.

Asphalt Thickness Verification – Is the process of having an asphalt technician drill a specified diameter core of an existing asphalt layer, remove it and measure it to verify that it meets the jobs specified thickness.

Nuclear Backscatter Density – Are nuclear density tests performed by a certified technician on the surface of a new or existing asphalt layer to verify proper compaction of the asphalt.

Asphalt Content by Ignition – Is a laboratory test that measures the amount of asphalt (i.e. bitumen) in a retrieved asphalt sample.

Extraction & Gradation – Is the process of having a field technician sample asphalt at a site and deliver it to a laboratory to have it tested for asphalt content and a sieve analysis performed on the aggregate.

Marshall Resistance – Is a laboratory test to evaluate the stability and plastic flow of bituminous paving mixtures (a.k.a. Asphalt)

Specific Gravity – Is a laboratory test that measures the specific gravity or density of asphalt.

Asphalt Paving Monitoring – Is the process of having an asphalt technician monitor a paving process to keep track of the spread rate, ensure that the asphalt is paved at the proper thickness and temperature, and that the entire paving process is done to jobsite specifications.

Spread Rate Calculation – Is the process of having an asphalt field technician monitor a paving process and calculate the spread rate which allows the contractor to determine the yield of the asphalt they are using.
